W = 1/2 L I2 (1)
where
W = energy stored (Joules)
L = inductance (henrys, H)
I = current (Amps, A)
Example - Energy Stored in Conductors
The energy stored in a conductor of 10 henrys where a current of 5 A flows can be calculated like
W = 1/2 10 (H) (5 (A))2
= 125 Joules
