According the National Institute for Occupational Safety - NIOSH - noise exposure should be controlled so that the exposure is less than the combination of exposure level - L - and duration - t.
The maximum time of exposure can be calculated as:
t = 28,800 / 2(L - 85)/3 (1)
where
t = exposure duration (seconds)
L = exposure level (dBA)
3 = exchange rate (dB)

Combinations of noise exposure levels and maximum duration time can be expressed as in the table below.
